GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓÆµ Baptist University seeks a person with a Christian, faith-based belief system, who is committed to an institution that maintains a Christ-centered approach to service and education. The Police Officer continually patrols the university campus and buildings, enforcing federal, state, and local laws, ensuring the safety of the community and public.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  • Enforces state and federal laws, along with university policies; enforces traffic laws, conducting traffic stops and issues citations and violations as appropriate.
  • Patrols assigned areas to protect persons and property; performs building checks, and performs extensive foot patrols indoors and outdoors.
  • Detects and solves crimes; makes arrests, collects evidence, writes reports, and testifies in court when necessary.
  • Responds to emergency calls.
  • Assists students, faculty, and staff with questions and problems
  • Deters criminal activity by being very visible and active.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Associates/Bachelor’s Degree is preferred

Experience and Knowledge:

  • 3 years of experience, 5 years preferred in a Texas law enforcement agency.
  • Knowledge of the mission, vision, and core values of the WBU Police Department.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of modern law enforcement, traffic control, and patrol services; knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of university policies.

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license. Police Officer certification is required.
  • TCOLE License

Work Location and Hours:

  • This is a uniform position in an indoor/outdoor environment
  • All positions requiring peace officer certification should be prepared for full field duty at any time regardless of primary assignment.
  • Works irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to work overtime with short or no advanced notice

Physical Demands:

  • Requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, and climbing.
  • Adequate speech, hearing, visual activity, and ability to distinguish color is required;
  • May be required to carry, push, pull, drag, or hold medium to heavy weight objects of up to 100 pounds.
  • The use of fingers, both hands, both arms, and both legs are required.
  • Must be able to take offensive and/or defensive action during physical confrontations
  • May be exposed to human and animal body fluids.
  • Emergency driving, hazards associated with traffic control, and working in and near traffic.
  • Working in and near natural and man-made disasters, inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
  • May work around heavy vehicles and equipment. May be exposed to dust, grease, smoke, fumes, and gases when assisting in emergencies.
  • Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, high voltage, and toxic materials, waste, and infectious diseases.
  • May be exposed to hostile environments, and dangerous and/or hostile people.
  • Requires the ability to discharge a firearm

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
